The THEME of the Eritrean Festival Holland
Here In the
Netherlands, each year, especially during the Summer period, there are
various Festivals of Dutch origin and other nationals that takes place in
different cities.
The Kwaku
Festival of Suriname people in Amsterdam, Thailand Grand Festival in Amsterdam,
Viva Brazil Festival in different cities of the Netherlands and Milkshake Festival in Amsterdam are a few examples to mention.
All these
Festivals have one thing in common, they are cultural events whereby the Dutch
society and various communities within it are being presented and celebrated. Such celebration pack natures a series of multi-cultural
and historical related performances, music and food at locations across the
Netherlands.
The Eritrean
Festival Holland is one of the annually organized cultural festival that takes
place around this time of the year.
This year the Eritrean community in the Netherlands
will be holding its 10th Eritrean
Festival Holland on July 19th up to 21st in the city of Rijswijk, near to The Hague, on
a beautiful location called Event Plaza.
Now entering its 10th edition, the Eritrean Festival is a traditional multicultural
gathering focused on bringing people and cultures together for a vibrant
combination of food, drink, dance and sports. And also it is a way of promoting
Eritrean culture to the Dutch Society and other communities and nationals
living in The Netherlands.
Eritrea has nine ethnic groups each with a
longstanding own language, culture and lives side by side for decades which
gives the country a rich cultural history. Hence the peace loving members of
the Eritrean communities in the Netherlands are very proud to introduce their
culture through the annual Festival.
Another key part of the festival's program is the various
sport activities such as football day tournament, youth team competitions where
numerous teams (of different ages) compete throughout the festival in order to get
their hands on the winner’s trophy.
This highly successful festival is expected to attract over 3,000
visitors from the Netherlands and abroad. Alongside the regular programs, the Eritrean festival traditionally
provides also for children and young
talents a stage for a play back show, art, singing and playing music, in order
to give them the opportunity to take the next step of their possible careers
and to learn more about their culture and origin.
As far as
the Eritrean Festival Holland is concerned, it is a festival that stands for
all walks of life but especially for being a kids friendly event, as it is
highly disciplined and safe event to participate on. The festival does not
define itself as art, theater or music
event but as a combination of all with cross-fertilization between each
disciplines.
There is as much for the eyes as for the ears at Eritrean Festival since
it uses a different THEME for each year’s event. This themes focuses on the
development of the peace loving Eritreans society in the Netherlands and expression
of their clear message of
love, respect, freedom and tolerance of Eritrean cultures, as well as
encouraging the youngsters to learn more about the value and respect other
cultures.
Everyone is
welcome to participate and enjoy the peaceful, beautiful and colorful Eritrean
Festival Holland of 2013.
