25th Anniversary Fenkil Operation Celebration in Amsterdam
The Second Battle of Massawa (aka. Operation Fenkil) took place in 1990 in and around the coastal city of Massawa, Eritrea. This offensive, which was aimed to liberate Massawa city, was also called the Fenkil Operation and It was Eritrean People's Liberation Front (EPLF) biggest attack on the Ethiopian army, both on land and at sea. The battle which was started on the 8th of February, 1990; lasted for three days. The surprise attack stunned the Ethiopian army that was one of the largest armies in Africa. During this offensive, the entire force of the army in the coastal area was totally crushed. On the occasion on the 25th Anniversary of Fenkil Operation, the youth association YPFDJ Amsterdam chapter jointly with the women's association NUEW Amsterdam chapter organized a colourful and cultural feast in Amsterdam city.
